Tonga is one of the very few Countries in the World which was never Conquered or Colonized by a Foreign Country ; perhaps thats the reason for its undiluted Polynesian Culture. Tonga is an island nation of 170 plus islands, scattered over 260 Square Miles in the South Pacific Ocean .Tonga is located in the heart of the South Pacific lying east of Fiji, south of Samoa and north of New Zealand. Tonga lies directly to the West of the international dateline, being the first country in the world to greet the new day everyday.

Out of the 170 plus islands around 48 are inhabited. The main island is Tongatapu where the capital, Nuku’alofa, is located.

Tonga is also known as the Friendly Islands and you will be delighted to find that Tongans live up to the epithet “The Friendly Islands” with their natural warmth and gentle approach to life. You’ll also discover that Tonga is a great place for fantastic adventures too.

A journey to the Kingdom of Tonga is like a journey back in time. With a Polynesian monarchy that dates back many centuries, Tonga remains uncrowded, unhurried and still largely undiscovered.

Travelling in Tonga is very laid back. The distinct lack of commercial tourism makes Tonga one of the hidden jewels of the South Pacific.

Whether one is inclined towards adventure holidays such as surfing, scuba diving, sailing or sea kayaking or just soaking up the sun, an amazing experience is to be had by all in the friendly islands of the Kingdom of Tonga.

Tonga is divided into 4 distinct groups. The Tongatapu group is the most populated and farthest south. The central Ha’apai group lies approximately 120km north, an archipelago of low coral islands surrounding soaring volcanoes. Another 120km north is the Vava’u group, Tonga’s main tourism hub with its magnificent islands and natural harbours. And in the extreme northern reaches are the Niuas, an isolated trio of volcanic islands 500km from Tongatapu.

The groups vary considerably from each other in their natural landscape, in culture and tradition and in the attractions and activities available for tourists, making visits to the outer islands (as Ha’apai, Vava’u and the Niua’s are collectively known) an essential part of a trip to Tonga.

The main island of Tongatapu is rich in culture and traditions with a touch of royalty for good measure. The Ha’apai group to the north is the ideal relaxing destination for a get-away-from-it-all holiday and the northern most group of islands, Vava’u, is yachters' heaven with its sheltered harbour.

From December to April, the weather is hot and humid, with considerable rainfall and an average daytime temperature of 28o Celsius. The cool dry season, with average day time temperatures of 24o Celsius runs from May to November. Trade winds during the season make for pleasant days and cool nights.

The Tongan Pa’anga is the Currency used and it equals to 100 sentis.

Getting to Tonga is straight-forward with direct flights between Los Angeles, New Zealand and Australia. Direct flights operate extensively to and from other south pacific countries too.

Come and experience the people, culture, climate and beauty of the ancient Kingdom of Tonga! Enjoy beautiful beaches, a thrilling fishing trip, an exhilarating dive trip or one of the many wonderful islands experiences. 'Tonga has it all...'

Blue Lagoon Resort is located on Foiata Island, situated within the Vava'u island group in the Kingdom of Tonga.
